Edinburgh Airport today welcomed the news that Virgin Atlantic has been successful in its bid for all of the Heathrow short haul remedy slots available following International Airline Group’s acquisition of bmi. Virgin Atlantic is the latest in a number of airlines including Turkish Airlines, Easyjet and Brussels Airlines to begin services from Edinburgh or expand their existing services. They all understand that by building and developing their bases at Scotland’s largest airport there are rewards for the airline, airport and passengers alike. Edinburgh Airport has focused on attracting new routes to Edinburgh since its acquisition by GIP in summer 2012. This backed with its commitment to operational excellence and improved passenger experience will assist in consolidating the capital airport’s position as a leading European airport. Gordon Dewar, CEO, Edinburgh Airport said: "This is good news for Scottish passengers. We’re focused on providing Scotland with choice both in terms of routes and carriers whilst extending its reach across the world. This new regular service does exactly that, giving choice to Heathrow and opening up a new set of onward destinations for our passengers. www.edinburghairport.com/about-us/media-centre/press-releases/edinburgh-airport-welcomes-virgin-announcement
